Funko has really been on a roll. It’s pretty amazing to see where the company is going in 2021. Pops! have been a huge hit for the past 7 plus years, Mystery Minis continue to sell, and with the popularity of Sodas making it incredibly hard to get your hands on why not throw another line into the mix. I present to you Funko Gold.
According to Complex (who received an early look at the products) these are coined as new PREMIUM VINYL FIGURES that will be focusing around sports and music. This looks like it could be a very exciting concept for sports and music memorabilia collectors. The figures are planned to come in both a 5″ and 12″ figure. The 5″ pricing at $9.99 and the 12″ at $24.99 placing them at about the same cost as a Pop!
Within the Gold line there are NBA, NFL, and a Notorious BIG figures coming. From the NBA set concepts for LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Luka Doncic, Gianis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and James Harden have been shown.
For the NFL set concepts for Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russel Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Lamar Jackson have been shown. As with anything sports related the ability to have huge numbers of players, alternate uniforms, and variations is incredibly large so anticipate the upcoming figures to be incredibly varied and abundant.
The final figure that has been revealed is the Notorious BIG (Biggie Smalls). Just like with the NFL and NBA Gold figures depending on what music icons can be licensed it can really openen up the possibilities for Gold to explode. If the line is accepted and embraced by collectors is a completely different story. Once more information is revealed we should be able to make a more accurate decision. Let’s just say if these are numbered and possibly come with chases like Sodas, Gold will most likely be a huge hit.
